Brief History

Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association of Malawi has a very interesting and rich history which spans several decades of active service to local agents. CAFAAM was formed in 1960s as a subsidiary of a regional association. Later it was disintegrated from the southern and central African association and became an independent national association.

CAFAAM has 9 founding members. These members are: Abegg Limited, African Lakes Company Limited, International Travel  and Tour Company, Horace Hickling and Company Limited, Manica  (Blantyre)  Limited, Cory Mann George Limited, F.C. Smith Limited, J. Tennett and Sons Limited, United Transport (Malawi)  Limited. Some of these founder members are now defunct while others still exists.

The association has tremendously grown from the initial membership of 9 companies to 19 and the figures

Objectives

The objectives of CAFAAM is:

  1. To promote and protect the legitimate interests of Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents in Malawi.
  2. To promote, support or make representations, concerning any proposed legislative or other measure affecting the interests of the Association.
  3. To affiliate with similar organizations in Malawi, adjoining territories and other countries.
  4. To do all such lawful things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives or any of them as may appear to be in the interests of the Association.
